Uganda Securities Exchange

The Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) is the principal stock exchange in Uganda. It was licensed to operate as an approved Stock Exchange in June 1997 by the Capital Markets Authority of Uganda.

The USE started its formal trading operations in January 1998 following the listing of its maiden instrument, the East African Development Bank (EADB) Bond.

In 2001 the first ever cross border listing in the East African market occurred with the listing of East African Breweries Ltd (EABL) on the USE. EABL is ranked among the top 10 companies on the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE) in terms of capitalization.

The basic function of USE is to provide a facility for raising funds for investment in long-term assets. The USE membership consists of broker/dealers and Investment advisory firms. Broker/Dealers are licensed to carry out trade transactions on the Exchange floor, while Investment Advisors are licensed to only offer Investment advisory services to their clients
