Panama Stock Exchange

The Panama Stock Exchange (Bolsa de Valores de Panama or BVP) is the national stock exchange in Panama which was established in 1989. On 26 June 1990, BVP held its first trading session, marking a new stage in the development of the securities market in Panama.

During 1990’s, the Exchange consolidated its position in the local competitive financial brokerage market, as more participants joined the BVP as seatholders or as Issuers and Investors.

The Panama Stock Exchange is the first organized market for public trading of securities in the Republic of Panama. It is a self-regulating securities market organization, authorized and supervised by the National Securities Commission of Panama (CNV).

At 31 December 2004 the BVP had 60 registered shareholders. Seatholders at the BVP held 43% of the shares of the BVP. The Exchange operates an electronic trading system with remote trading terminals for all Stock Exchange seatholders.
