Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE)

The Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE) is the principal stock exchange in Kenya, and also the leading securities exchange in East Africa. It is a member of the African Stock Exchanges Association.

The NSE was rated by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) as the best performing market in the world with a return of 179% in dollar terms. The NSE 20-Share Index recorded an all-record high of 5030 points on 18 February 1994.

In 1996, the largest share issue in the history of NSE, the privatization of Kenya Airways, came to the market. In 2006 live trading on the automated trading systems of the Nairobi Stock Exchange was implemented. In 2008, the Nairobi Stock Exchange All Share Index (NASI) was introduced as an alternative index.

The products traded at the NSE are Shares (or Equities) and Bonds (also known as Debt Instruments). There are three investment market Segments at the Exchange namely: Main Investment Market Segment (MIMS); Alternative Investment Market Segment (AIMS); and the Fixed Income Securities Market Segment (FISMS).
